What are Pilates Reformer and Chair Classes?

What are a Pilates Reformer & Chair Classes?

Pilates Reformer & Chair Classes – Specially designed to challenge and strengthen the body, the REFORMER is so named because it was created to reform the body of the participant. Consisting of a large frame, topped with a flat, cushioned platform; this platform (or carriage) is attached to the frame by springs and moves as you push or pull with your legs and arms. The reformer also has long straps with handles on them which can be pulled to move the carriage. Through a variety of carefully choreographed movement, Reformer Pilates provides a full body workout.

Like the reformer, the PILATES WUNDA CHAIR is another of Joseph Pilates’ resistance exercise machines. The Pilates chair is basically a box with one side that can be pressed down against the resistance of springs, like a large pedal. Sometimes the pedal portion is divided into two parts that can be worked independently. Traditionally, Pilates chairs were made of wood, with a padded top and pedal. The design of the Wunda chair is simple, but it’s form allows for a wide variety of exercises that can be done lying, sitting, or standing on the chair.

What are the Benefits of the Pilates Reformer / Wunda Chair Exercises?

Reformer & Wunda Chair classes are great for strengthening the body’s “powerhouse” (abs, lower back, hips and glutes), Shoulders, Arms and Legs. Workouts on both apparatuses focuses heavily on alignment and accurate muscle engagement, which can lead to improved posture, better balance and more stability and increased range of movement, especially when in motion.

The Reformer and Wunda Chairs classes also provide terrific no-impact workouts. You will spend your time with a combination of lying down, sitting, kneeling or standing, with little force being exerted on  your joints.

These workouts are great if you are looking for an intense and challenging workout!!

Can beginners sign up for a Pilates Reformer / Wunda chair GROUP class?

Our Reformer and Wunda Chair Pilates group class is suitable for all fitness levels and anyone can sign up even if they have little to no pilates experience, however we do ask clients to book an orientation session first before signing up for a group class. The orientation session is a private, 50 minute session in which the instructor/trainer will assess the client for possible injuries and muscle weaknesses and teach the client the basics of pilates like proper breathing, basic movements, how to isolate and use the correct muscle in exercises and correct body alignment (spinal, pelvic and joints).  You will be orientated as far as using these machines are concerned, so that you are familiar with the operation instructions given by the Pilates Instructor during your group exercise class.  These sessions can be booked at any time, depending on the availability of our instructors.

Reformer Have you done Pilates before?

If you havent  done pilates before, then book a “Try-Out” class to see whether this is for you, before signing up.
