Pilates Dynamics offers Reformer Pilates that can help improve and maintain overall physical fitness – leading to greater strength, flexibility and balance, which also improves posture, movement and mental health.

What Is A Reformer:

The Reformer is so named because it was created to reform the body of the person operating it. It consists of a long frame, topped with a flat, cushioned platform (or carriage) which is attached to the frame by springs and moves as you push or pull using your legs or arms.

What are the benefits of Reformer Pilates at Pilates Dynamics?

  • Provides a full body workout

Utilizing a Reformer to perform specific, movements will give you a balanced full body workout. The pull of the springs on a Reformer, globally strengthens the whole body to not just target the large muscle movers, but also activate the smaller stabilisers. Where there is uneven weakness, you are also able to work unilaterally to focus in and correct imbalances.

  • Strengthens the body and tones muscles

The Reformer allows you to move through full range while working on strengthening muscles. This exercise uses the machine’s springs and levers to create resistance and allow for equal focus on the concentric and eccentric contractions to create long, lean, toned muscles. It targets not only major muscles, but also small muscles are called to action when using the reformer.

  • Low impact (but high intensity)

Reformer Pilates is advised for anyone with an injury or recovering from one, under professional supervision. It is specifically designed to enable one to work horizontally rather than bearing weight, which reduces load through the body. The low impact in movements allows the muscles to tone and strengthen the injured area for a speedy recovery.

  • Improves core and posture

Most of the exercises performed on a Reformer machine target the core while working on postural muscles simultaneously.

  • Enhance mental health

Any form of exercise is said to be good for our health depending on our fitness goals. With Reformer Pilates at Pilates Dynamics we advise clients not to just focus on their core and flexibility, but also the relaxation of the their body thereby releasing all stress-levels for a positive impact that brings about a natural mood boost.

Does Reformer Pilates @Pilates Dynamics cater for PRE- AND POST-NATAL WOMEN?

During pregnancy Reformer Pilates is an ideal exercise to strengthen the core muscles and improves flexibility and mobility, all of which will help during childbirth and aid with recovery once the child is born.

At Pilates Dynamics we ensure that the exercises can be performed in positions that are safe for women at all stages of pregnancy. These exercise techniques may take the stress off the back and pelvic floor, which helps with the positioning of the baby for delivery.

Some benefits of including Reformer Pilates in your pre- and post-pregnancy exercises:

  • Strengthen abdominal and pelvic floor muscles

Core stability doesn’t only help with the positioning of the baby for delivery but it also strengthen the deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles.

  • Reduce strain when getting in and out of bed

For a pregnant woman, getting in and out of bed can be a mission. As months progress, muscles tend to become weaker and there isn’t much focus on good posture and movements and this causes pains and strains to the muscles.

  • Eliminating back pain

Back pressure increases significantly during pregnancy due to hormonal change and weight distribution due to postural changes. Strengthening glutes, along with your deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, reduces the chance of developing back pain. Reformer Pilates also increases your postural and body awareness, which can decrease your chances of back pain during pregnancy.

  • Controlled breathing

As the pregnancy progresses it gets harder to breathe deeply. Breathing is an important part of Pilates and of course the delivery process. This breathing focus will allow you to be able to breathe more deeply and therefore give birth more easily.

  • Faster postpartum recovery

Women who exercise during pregnancy have easier deliveries, more energy and can recover faster after delivery. Reformer Pilates is one of the safe exercise for pregnant moms and babies throughout all stages without stressing the body too much. It is therefore ideal for postpartum recovery.
