MAT AND SMALL EQUIPMENT CLASSES

What does a Pilates Mat and Small Equipment class entail?

At Pilates Dynamics our Pilates Mat & Small Equipment classes entails doing exercises on the Mat (using your own body weight) and we will use equipment/small apparatus/props such as:

• Magic Circles (rings)
• Physio (big) Balls
• Small soft balls
• Weighted balls WWh
• Medicine balls
• Free weights
• Thera-bands
• Gliding discs
• TRX
• Kettlebells
• Weighted aerobic bars
• Looped resistance bands
• Trampolines
• Arc barrels
• Ballet barre
• Toning bars, to name but a few pieces of small equipment. It really depends on the program prepared for that specific class.

In our Mat and Small Equipment Classes, exercises are either performed lying down, seated, on the knees, or standing on the floor – incorporating any of the above variety of small apparatus.

Classes are never the same and each class is different and full of variety. The focus is a full body workout, whilst ensuring that the principles of Pilates is adhered to. Our Pilates workouts are designed to emphasize the correct biomechanics of movement to increase strength, flexibility, stamina, posture and dynamic stability. Programs are geared for everyone - no experience required! You will be getting not only the safest and most impacting workout - but will have fun doing it!

What type of workouts can I expect?

The main focus of a Pilates class is in-depth abdominal work. However, at Pilates Dynamics our programs are written and structured in such a way that you get a full body workout. No workout is ever the same, which prevents boredom. As indicated above, the Ballet Barre and the TRX are also incorporated into our Mat classes. The Ballet Barre workouts are sometimes a fusion of Pilates, Dance, Yoga and Ballet combined with fluid athletic and strength training and is fully expandable and adaptable to any client base. The beauty of Plates is that any exercise can be modified for beginners, or people with injuries, and can also be progressed for advanced clients that are looking for an extreme challenge.

Incorporating the TRX into our Pilates Mat & Small Equipment is a great way of offering suspension training to enable the execution of multi-planar exercises just the way we do in everyday exercise or during sports. The TRX involves activation of multiple muscle groups during a single exercise, making several muscles work together as a single unit which increases muscle co-ordination and strength. The TRX is used as a prop or a piece of equipment in Pilates due to its versatility and the TRX improves cardiovascular endurance.

Can I expect to get a cardio workout as well?

The pace of classes can be adjusted in order to get a cardiovascular endurance workout, as well as the use of the many pieces of equipment used. Trampolines (rebounding) are also used in our classes, which incorporates the principles of Pilates with the added benefit of cardio. It brings about cardiovascular health and improves cellular activities. This is because rebounding works on core strengthening and combines the postural effects with the cardio element, without the pressure on your joints.

Can I do Pilates if I am a beginner?

We do require that you do an orientation class – which is a private class – whereby the instructor will take you through some of the exercises and teach you stabilization, body postures & alignment, breathing techniques, and some Pilates exercises in order to prepare you for the group classes. Once you have done an orientation class you will know what to avoid and what to work towards to get the maximum benefit out of Pilates.

You will have their full attention, whether you do a group class or a private class. Our instructors are all very experienced and have developed a sharp eye to ensure that you do the exercises correct. Should you have any pathologies or injuries, it is important that your instructor is aware of the issue beforehand, so that he/she can modify exercises for you. It is always a good idea to do a few privates if you have any injuries, in order to get you to a point where you will be able to join a group class.

How big are your group classes?

Group Classes are limited to a maximum of 8 people per class, to ensure that you get the individual attention you deserve. We also offer Pilates Mat & Small Equipment on a private (1-on-1), duo (2 people) or trio (3 people) basis.
