Why do the Intensive Pilates Mat work and Pilates Reformer course?

Pilates Mat work is the foundation of the Pilates teaching method. However, it is our popular Reformer courses that receives all the glory!

We want you to experience, understand and embrace both the Mat and the Reformer Instructor Training. This course focusses on the full repertoire of Pilates exercises and variations offered for different clients of all ages and abilities. This combined program will support you in becoming the creative, transformative teacher you will become.

How is the course structured?

1. The Mat Course – Lectures over 2 weekends (1 per month)
All exercises are in-depth in terms of how-to set-up; how to execute; Cues and
Watchpoints; Muscle Focus; Exercise Objectives; Props and Choreography Changes;
Contra-Indications and Recommendations (for different body types and population
Groups and Injuries).
a) Offers Pilates related Anatomy, which forms the foundation on which this course is built. Understanding how the muscles function is key to understanding the body and knowing which exercises appropriate and which exercises are not appropriate.
b) Pre-Pilates exercises, offers the basic level (easier) exercises, which also forms your warm-up repertoire and promotes rehabilitation. This provides the foundation upon which all other more difficult exercises are built. All Props and Assists (external use of equipment) is given, with Muscle focus and exercise Objectives, as well as variations for different body types, with Contra-indications (injuries) and Recommendations (who the exercises are appropriate for and who to avoid it for).
c) Pilates Level 1, offers slightly more complex exercises with Variations to make it easier or more difficult. This level includes Props and Assists (external use of equipment to achieve the instructors’ and program goals. Muscle focus, Objectives and Recommendations and Contra-Indications are included.
d) Pilates Level 2, offers the Instructor a more advanced level of exercises to challenge the more intermediate level of clients. Again, this comes with a breakdown of Variations, Props and Assists, Exercise objectives, and Contra-Indications and Recommendations for different population groups.
e) Pilates Level 3, offers exercises for an advanced client like athletes and dancers. Exercises have a breakdown of Variations, Props and Assists, Exercise objectives, Contra-Indications and Recommendations for different body types.

The Mat Course is complete with programs designed for specific populations including pre- and post-natal clients, clients with osteoporosis, and clients with neck and back, shoulder and hip issues. Class design, dynamic assessment and correcting common dysfunctional movement patterns are also included, together with:-

• Development of cueing, coaching and teaching skills for Mat & Reformer
• Instruction in observing and analysing posture and movement patterns.
• Safety information for teaching older adults, pre-and post-natal women and clients with injuries.

Practical Hours:

82 Practical hours (excluding the lecture hours) This is made up of Self-Practise hours; Observation hours; and Client Teaching hours.

Reformer pilates courses

2. The Reformer Course – Lectures over 1 weekend
a) Consists of Basic Level 1; Level 2; and Advanced Level.
All exercises are in-depth in terms of how-to set-up; how to execute; Cues and
Watchpoints; Muscle Focus; Exercise Objectives; Props and Choreography
Changes; Contra-Indications and Recommendations (for different body types and
Population groups and Injuries).
b) The Reformer section is complete with programs designed for specific populations including pre- and post-natal clients, clients with osteoporosis, and clients with neck and back, hip and shoulder and ankle and foot issues. Class design, dynamic assessment and correcting common dysfunctional movement patterns are also included.

Class design, dynamic assessment and correcting common dysfunctional movement patterns are also included, as well as:-

100 Practical hours (excluding the lecture hours) This is made up of Self-Practise hours; Observation hours; and Client Teaching hours.

BOTH Intensive Mat and Reformer Additional Learning and Guidance
1. 3 x 2-hour Tutorials, offering a revision of the work (Questions and Answering).
2. 3 x 1-hour Real life Client Class Teaching
3. Exercise Videos of each exercise in the Intensive Mat & Reformer Course
4. 4 Tests pre-exams
5. The exams are made up of a Theoretical, and 2 Practical Exams.

What are the pre-requisites for enrolment into BOTH the Intensive Mat & Reformer course?
• A minimum of 10 Mat and 10 Reformer Classes.
• If you already have your Mat qualification, then a minimum of 10 Reformer Classes are required.
